Hello Divers!

It's time to get wet and under again! We've got a very special treat for you.

It is common knowledge that central and eastern Indonesia boast some of the best dive sites in the world. But what about the west?

What The Fish! is excited to take you on a unique journey to the west - Weh Island in Aceh, Sumatra to be precise. Weh Island or Pulau Weh is a small active volcanic island to the northwest of Sumatra. The island is also Indonesia's westernmost point (0 Km) situated in the Andaman Sea.

The island is known for its ecosystem; the Indonesian government has declared 60 square kilometres (23 sq mi) of inland and sea around the island as a wildlife protection area.

A rare megamouth shark species was found on shore and the island is the only habitat for the threatened toad, Bufo valhallae (genus Bufo). Coral reef areas around the island are known for their large variety of fish species.

Some of the diving spots that we will cover include wall, slope, wreck and an underwater hot spring! We will also have the opportunity to dive in the incredible Sophie Rickmers Wreck, one of Weh Island's underwater highlights. This is a decompression dive and we have to emphasize that this trip is only suitable for experienced divers (deep diving) with a minimum diving level of Advanced Open Water or the equivalent.
